The City of Florence
Florence’s museums, palaces, and churches house some of the greatest artistic treasures in the world. The most popular and important sites in Florence include the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Uffizi, the Bargello, and the Accademia. The churches of Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce are veritable art galleries, and the library of San Lorenzo is a magnificent exhibition of Michelangelo’s architectural genius.
Wander some of the oldest streets in the city until you reach the Arno River, cross the Ponte Vecchio, and experience the “newest” area of Florence, the Oltrarno. Be sure to set aside time to see the vast and varied art collection housed in the Pitti Palace. When you grow weary of museums and monuments, head outdoors. Spend a day at the Boboli Gardens or climb the hill to the church of San Miniato al Monte to experience an enchanting view of Florence, Italy.
The best way to see this exquisite city is on foot — as you’ll get the chance to walk in the footsteps of some of the most accomplished artists and scientists the world has ever known. Just make sure you take in the very best La Dolce Vita (the sweet life) Florence has to offer. Stand on the bridge over the Arno, and watch sunrises and sunsets; walk to Piazzale Michelangelo to soak up the artistic beauty of Florence; stroll around the Medieval backstreets for a spot of boutique shopping. Whatever you do, Florence is a city that is there to be explored.
Florence is the capital of Tuscany and only a short drive away from some of the best vineyards in Italy. Our Florence & Wine Tasting Experience takes you to Volpaia, one of the highest vineyards in the Chianti region where you can enjoy a guided tour of the wine cellars and the fortified village and then sit down to a 7 course lunch with 5 separate wines. This wine tasting Experience is very different to our Mona Lisa Experience and our Tuscany Wine Experience, as just being in Volpaia itself is an Experience!! Volpaia is a picturesque fortified village in the Chianti Classico wine zone. Walled hamlets and small villages are typically referred to as castelli in Tuscany, the same term being used for castles in the more traditional sense.
